4. Did you ever have a favorite scary story while you were growing up? What was it about? One time our dad took us camping to this place called convict lake. I don’t know where it is. As we sat by the campfire that night, he told us about a bunch of convicts that escaped prison nearby. They tried to escape through the lake and all of them drowned. Their bodies were never recovered. (insert scary music here) So that night, as we were laying in our sleeping bags, our dad started throwing pebbles into the lake. Then he would make these strange sounds. Pretty soon, we were all running towards their sleeping bags, scared crapless of the convicts coming out of the water after us.

OMG!!! That was just.. FUNNY!!!
ReplyDeleteI was never one to be scared of story's. However I did like the one called "give me back my golden arm"
ReplyDeletewe would visit Mackinac Island (michigan) in the summers..my Unlce would tell all the kids...every generations of the kids each year the same story...about this guy who was brought to the Island by "thugs" and killed...and "they said his bones were buried on the land our family cabin was on". LOL Every time he would get a batch of kids to dig up areas, which he pointed out of course, around the cabin....and every time they would find bones buried under the front porch.lol (He put them there of course...Large turkey leg bones and such. LMAO.
ReplyDeleteCampfire convict stories. Great stuff. Two guys escaped from prison and were roaming the woods nearby looking for a way to evade police who were in pursuit. One of them had a hook for a hand. (I know. They don't allow hooks in prison. I didn't know it THEN, however.) This couple were parked by the side of the lake in a romantic spot, making out while listening to the radio when the announcement went out over the air waves that a police manhunt was underway for the violent escaped prisoners, one of which had a hook for a hand. The boy, intent on ... well, you know ... remained unconcerned and continued with his "courting", while the girl sat up, straightened her clothes and argued that they should leave immediately, get out of these woods and get to a safer place. The boy, realizing his big night was over, started the engine and spun his tires angrily in the soft mud near the water's edge, but took off toward town.
ReplyDeleteThey stopped at a gas station for a soft drink and a couple of dollars worth of gas. When they came back to the car, guess what they saw on the rear door handle? That's right, a hook! Spooky, huh?
AAAAHHHHHHHHHH, Jim, stop. that was just too scary
ReplyDeleteWe were big on the one where the couple was making out in a car in the woods. The girl heard a noise and she insisted they stop what they were doing. The boy, wanting to get the mood back announce that he was sure it was nothing but he would go out to investigate - the girl promised to stay safe in the car no matter what.
ReplyDeleteHe didn't come back and didn't come back and after a while she heard a scraping noise coming from the roof of the car.....but she still get out.
When daylight came and help arrived....it turned out that the boyfriend had been strung up on a tree above the car and the scraping noise she'd heard was his shoes along the roof.......
That was the other version of the story I also heard. Both of them urban myths, I think. Great around a campfire when the kids won't go to bed. LOL
