Wine and Chocolate Tasting in the Lodi Region
I took some pics and put them in this blog, but they didnt transfer over from my document page, so I will post them in separate posts. Crap
Today we went to the Lodi Wine and Chocolate festival. It started at 11:00, and we arrived about 11:45. We were given our glasses, two chocolate bars, and a map of the participating wineries. Inside the visitorâs center, there were seven wineries set up on tables handing out wine and chocolate samples. We went to the closest table, and squeezed our way to the front of the line. Some people just stood in the front, like they were the only ones there, get a grip people! There were so many people there, I just wanted to leave, but I stayed and didnât complain too much. I get really claustrophobic around that many people. It was just really a very tight squeeze in the visitorâs center.
So when John had his fill of the wines there, we took off for our favorite part of wine country, Lockford. We are not that familiar with the Lodi wineries, and today just wasnât the day to get to know them on amore personal basis. We will go back, when the area gets a little quieter, and some of those people go home. So we take off for Lockford and one of our favorite wineries, Cigarzin. This is a private winery and the grapes come from Napa. California is more known for its Napa wineries, than the wineries in the central valley. Give them about ten years, and everyone will want Lodi wines, and the Napa snobs will be begging people to drink their wines.
This is a picture of one of the setups in front of the vats of wine. I donât know if that vat was full or not, but the wine is made in this type of vat in this winery.
This next pic should be of a Chocolate fountain
There were strawberries, cream puffs, rice crispy treats and pretzels to dip in the fountain. This is my idea of decadence. It is kind of messy, but way too much fun. I put some in my wine glass, thinking it would harden, but it didnât. So then I had to get the chocolate out. It was so good. Chocolate wine, really, it was so good. I caught John dipping a strawberry in the fountain, Yummy. He is a real chocoholic.
Then he caught me dipping a cream puff. It started to rain pretty hard a little later in the day, and we had enough to drink. Itâs not like we didnât know what wines were there. We picked up our wine from our wine club membership, two bottles, and went home. OH, bye the way, I did purchase two bottles form this winery. They have a really great Chardonnay. I also got a sweet desert wine, to pour over ice cream or cheese cake. Just another decadent goody on my list of things I love.
Well, that was our day. It was fun, we ate a lot of chocolate, and even bought some really pricey chocolate truffles for John. It rained all day, but that didnât keep anyone away from the bottles. We will probably not do this again, if I can help it. I donât care for the crowds, but a weekend trip would be fun to visit the other wineries. We donât have to pay for tasting here in this area, so that makes it a little easier to go. Well, I will see you all later. Hope your having a great weekend.
