I have been going to the dentist since I was a little girl. If it wasnt one thing, it was another. I have had everything done in my mouth. Except braces. One dentist I had when i was in grade school mentioned i might need braces one time, but I knew even then my teeth were straight and i didnt need braces. I have had multiple deep root cleanings, PAINFUL! i have had Root canals, also painful and also one bridge and caps and fillings. Last year i had Implants started in the back, but I found out the teeth were not part of the 3600.00 price, so that gets put on hold for now.
Its not like I havent tried to do what was recommended for me to do. I was told if I quit smoking, my teeth would start to heal. So, after many years, I finally quit smoking. My gums turned pink and pretty, but my teeth didnt fallow suit. I was told to quit eating sunflower seeds cus the shells get in my gums and irritate them. So I quit the seeds. no change there either. I have flossed and brushed and rinsed till my teeth should have healed themselves, but they never do.
About 15 years ago, I went to the dentist thinking I was going to have a deep root cleaning, but in fact she cut part of the gums off, so the roots could be cleaned easier. i had deep pockets and this was supposed to correct that problem. All it did was slowley loosen those teeth till they were ready to fall out. So this year, I decided I was going to get that problem fixed too. I made an appointment with a new dentist and told them I wanted this problem fixed first. I couldnt look like a crack whore with missing front teeth. OH yes, it is my front right tooth and the one next to it. Wouldnt I be cute.
So i went to the appointment and got the teeth made for the first partial while my mouth healed. I was supposed to have the teeth pulled on Tuesday the 2nd, but I was leaving town and I didnt want the teeth falling out, so I was able to have the work done on Thursday. It only took a half hour to get my teeth pulled and the temp partial put in place The new temp teeth look really good, I can smile and be happy i will look Ok.
the thing is, right now, my teeth dont touch, so I cant chew. I talk like I have braces in my mouth. lol. for the first few days, I was starving. all ate was yogurt and cottage cheese. I may loose some weight here. I am going to call the dentist and ask about this in the morning. I am very fortunate that I dont get sick very often, but he dentist is making bank on me. I have double coverage and use every penny every year.
Ok, I gotta go snag a nap before I go to work tonight. I just thought I would fill in another blank here. so good night, and remember to brush your teeth. lmao
I'm so sorry you had to have all that work done. You sure weren't kidding about the million dollar mouth. :-(
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing not ONE dentist ever checked your saliva for a hereditary "sugar mouth". If you have it.. there's nothing you can do to correct it. My BF's son has it.. and over the years.. he's finally had to succumb to the idea of dentures. It was rough.. cause.. he'd brush many times a day.. use the rinses.. eat right.. nada.. Before you spend one more dime.. something to think about checking. No one WANTS dentures.. but.. sometimes.. it's just what was handed to you genetically.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of that Cherie. I will ask him next time I go in. sometimes I et os frustrated, I have told them I want to jsut pull all my teeth and have fakeones put in. Then i hear, Oh no, you dont want that either. How much worse can it be.
ReplyDeleteLisa - you don't want them all pulled.....my dad just had that done and it was six months getting it all fitted properly...and I'm still not sure it's all quite right. Honest, if you can possibly hold on to what you have - do it.
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I have gum issues - brushing and flossing helps - but its not my fault or your fault - it is what it is....I "hope" that one more bone graft surgery will let me keep what I have.
So I totally understand your frustration - there's no end to it, sigh.
It's normal that the temporary partial won't match up well - but they ought to be able to adjust it enough that you are able to chew some at least, so I'm glad you are going to call your dentist.
I'd say you've had a tough time with these guys, haven't you? I always thought that Doctors - of all types - were there when you needed them and were like vehicle mechanics. Fix ya right up and on to the next patient who needs a fix-up. Not true. It's a business and they have to pay the bills just like everybody else. When they get paid, the always seem to have another solution to mother nature. I don't know why that is. Have an apple and two aspirin. Call me in the morning. Dr. CameraJim.
ReplyDeleteEm, there is no way I will pull them all. I just get so frustrated with goin to the dentist all the time. I am going with he loosing weight advantage of this run with my teeth issue. there is somethign good to everything that happens. I have to beleive that.
ReplyDeleteI couldnt read that! I got a few paragraphs in and I couldnt read any more! Ey yi, yi!
ReplyDeleteThey cut away part of your gum??? I cringed all the way through this!!
ReplyDeleteYep carol, that is what they did. I just had my front teeth set and ready to put ina perminent bridge. I used to have such pretty teeth. then, they went down hill. I now have a temp bridge on my front teeth. you cant tell unless you know what tthey used to look like. This new dentist doesnt even hurt when he give me a shot.
ReplyDeleteAmber, you wuss! its just a dentist.
