Vacation is almost here

Today is sunday, and it is only four days till i leave for tulsa. this morning we picked up the rental car john is driving out there, and it pretty nice actually. its a silver saturn with all the bells n whistles. john wont be falling in the no radio zone in this car. there are parts of the drive where all you get is static or dead air. this car came with xm radio. hope it keeps him entertained.

my sister came and spent the night with us last night. she has a visiting friend from singapore here that she works with and talks to almost daily but had never met. well, the young lady had to come here for business and my sister is showing her around California this week. they are both on vacation. today we sent them to murphy's to go wine tasting, shopping and to check out the huge gold nugget at ironstone vineyards. I think they will have fun. don't know if they will decide to stay there or come back here tonight. maybe now when i ask my sisters to come here n go wine tasting with us, they will.

we have blue sky's for the first time in about a week na half or two. its nice to be able to breath again. i don't know the status of all the fires, but hopefully they are running out of fuel.

After i turn off my lappy today and go take my nap for work tonight, i wont have my lappy until i get to tulsa. my sister talked me into sending it with john. she said they are so strict at the airports, she wouldn't even take her purse if she didn't have to. i was gonna bring it just to have something to do while i wait for my flight. i suppose i could bring a book. but i know em always travels with her lappy and has never mentioned anything about problems with the airport staff. i am all undecided about this now. i have until tonight to decide. I will probably bring it with me. all i will have is a carry on. I sent the camera with john though.

i am going to try and get called off on wednesday night. i would like to try ands sleep before i get on the plane. that would be nice. well, the car is just about packed. John is anxious to leave, and so am i. don't know if i will have much more to say before i thursday, but if not, i will see you all in tulsa.

  2. Take it with you - I always take mine. Since you can have a carryon and a personal item - just put your purse in your carryon and use the laptop bag as a purse. Or, I generally slide my laptop into my carryon and carry a regular purse.

But it definitely is nice to have when I travel - don't send it off with John.

  4. I'm with Em on this one... I took my laptop with me to the UK, and in most of the airports, all I had to do was remove it from the case for the pass through the scanner. Better you should have it with you, than to have it go cross-country with John.

The sky here was orange with smoke that was riding the upper winds from somewhere, and about 3 p.m., ash and soot began falling out of the sky, nearly like snow. I miss blue skies, but I imagine not nearly so much as the people who're still suffering with the fires.

Safe journey to both you and John, and have a great vacation!

  5. And that time I had to spend the night in the Miami airport - the laptop was a godsend.....not only did it entertain me - it found me a flight home else I might still be there (well, probably not really still there - but you get the point). Like Haley says - the only effort involved is that you have to have it out to go through security - but then you can repack it if you like. And I'm laughing to think that in Vegas we could all sit in a Starbucks chatting online with each other just like those cartoons ;).

Safe trip to you and John - and I'm looking forward to finding out what there is to do in Tulsa since I still need to visit Oklahoma......

  6. John left this morning about 6 am. he will get there wednesday afternoon. and i am sitting here on my couch with my lappy, so thank you all for the feedback. it would have drove me nuts if he took this with him.
We should do that just for the picture when we get there em. that would be hilarious.

  7. My sister said she was getting ash at her house in watsonville also. we are finally getting to see the blue sky again and its getting easier to breath.we had some wind yesterday and last night, so it blew out a lot of that smoke. i sure hope it clears out there pretty soon. it must be hurrting the economy down there a lot, with all this warm weather and smoke taking over. hope your breathing better soon.
