What is your comfort food?

We each have some kind of food we consider comfort food. It is different for each of us, and for different reasons. For a lot of people, for some reason mac n cheese falls into the comfort food category. For me, its the food I ate when I was a kid. Rice n beans, homemade bread and pies. tonight we are having rice n beans with buttermilk biscuits. John made a pork butt yesterday in the smoker, and put it in the pot of beans. OMG, this is sooo good. I know a lot of you may not care for beans with all their side affects, but I love them. We had a pot of beans on the stove quite often when we were growing up. We usually ate them over rice, just plane old white rice. Sometimes, my sister would make fried potatoes to have as a side. Yes, it was a bunch of those horrid carbs, but there was a lot of us and that was cheap food to make.

So what is your comfort food and where did it come from?

  1. For me, it depends on the season and the reason I am looking for comfort. lol In the winter time I love a bowl of chili and some hot cocoa (not at the same time tho! LOL) In the summer or warmer months I crave popcorn..well, that is also in the winter too. lol I guess popcorn is big for me because that was a treat for me as a kid. My mom would make it the "old fashion" way..in a big pot on the stove..we had to shake it while the kernels were popping..it was always fun for me. :)

  2. This is weird, I was just at another persons blog and she asked what was the one food you could not live without. So I guess I'll just write what I wrote in her blog since it's a similar question. I don't usually crave one particular food over another, I like lots of different foods and I like to change them up often. However I do crave Coke daily. I love, love, love Coke and McDonald's has the best usually. On Saturday I went through the drive-thru just to get a coke, nothing else, because I just wanted it.

  5. Hmmmm - I had to think about this one for a bit....but its corned beef hash from a can. Now, it's not particularly good for you (lots of fat) so I don't have it often, but it takes me back to my childhood - yum.
And my heartache comfort food is chocolate ice cream.
