We got home yesterday and i havent even updated since the first time i wrote when we got to texas. Im feeling a little bit of guilt from that. its not like I didnt have something to say. i have no real good excuse, so I am going to put it down in a thursday 13.
1. We got to see our son and about 250 other young adults graduate from the Air Force. after, when they would see each other, they would say congratulations to each other. this went on all day, all weekend.
2. We saw the Alamo. Remember the Alamo? I wasnt there so i had to read about it. it just wasnt the same from what I hear. It also wasnt as big as I expected. and right in the middle of town.
3. We saw the Riverwalk in San Antonio. it was really cool. it deserved its own blog. I didnt take enough pictures of the walk.
4. we took the boat cruise on the rivewalk. two girls were sitting across from us and one couldnt keep her eyes off Alex. it was so funny. she would look at him, get a big smile then look down. I almost burst out laughing when i saw it happen.
5. I saw a man shake my sons hand and thank him for his service to our country. It took everything i had not to cry. even as i am writing this. talk about bursting with pride.
6. We experienced the 85% humidity of San Antonio. i swear it felt like you could cut the air. HOT!
7. Ate at the famous Dicks on the riverwalk. that was a fun experience. They made a hat for Alex, i think i put it in my album.
8. Saw a young lady buy my son an ice cream when we went to an ice cream parlor. he was about to pay, and she jumped up to the counter and paid for it. there was a longer story to this, but i dont want to go into it here. another moment of extreme pride.
9. Got lost almost every time we went onto the base. yes, we had a map. every brown patch of grass looked the same as did every building.
10. Now we have proof our son can make a bed and keep his area clean. I saw it and have pictures.
11. Got to catch up with Johns cousin who lives in Houston. he drove out to meet us and spent the day with us. it was a fun day.
12. got into Sea World for free cus Alex was military. It cost 59.95 normally to get in. How cool was that.
13. I am almost done, now I hope multiply doesnt decide at the last moment to make me sign in. I keep scrolling up and i dont see a sign in thing. Ok, here is the last one. Went to church with my son and many of the other airmen on the base. it was an amazing experience and deserves its own blog. i cried the whole time almost.
Ok, i did it. and it wasnt that hard this time.
I felt the same way about the Alamo.....but then I realized a couple of things...one is that they've built up all around it (remember those hotels and office buildings?) so the complex is a lot smaller than it was back then...and it's really the complex that was "the Alamo" - not just that little building.
ReplyDeleteThe other thing is that there were a whole lot less people back then. I bet some of the California missions (the original ones) are also quite small compared to the churches of today for the same reason.
I'm glad to hear that people have respect for the military and their service......and I hope that continues once we are no longer in a time of war.......Everyone who is serving in the military or has served in the past deserves our gratitude and our thanks. The thanks is not dependent on whether or not they had to go fight our enemies - it's based on their willingness to protect us wherever, whenever, however they are called upon to do so.
And all bases are confusing, I think....I always used to get lost on the army base down here when I used to shortcut through it (more tried to shortcut through it) on my way to the shore.
But this crying stuff - hmmmm - maybe you ought to carry a sign explaining your tears so people dont misunderstand and think you're unhappy ;).
i was always smiling ear to ear when the tears were flowing in public. there was no misunderstanding. when we were in church, everyone had tears. im gonna have to blog that one seperatly
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to that....
