more puter woe's( and a puter fix)

Im just wonderin, do you put the title on your blog before or after you write them? I usually do it last, cus I never really know what all Im gonna talk about. so here goes for this posting.

A few months back, I had to put the desktop in the shop to get decomtaminated. everything had to be erased. At the time, i didnt remember I had a disk that came with my computer to set up the system again. I let the intallers put the version they had back on my desktop. this also meant I had to reinstall the printer. so i got it back home and not even thinking of looking at the installation instructions, just put the disk back in and set it to run. WRONG! I later found out that the printer doesnt even recognise that it has a scanner installed in it. this baffled me. and baffled me some more. its been baffleing me for a while now. I havent needed the scanner really, so it didnt get to the point of bothering me.

Well, one day I decided to make a memory quilt. I needed my scanner to scan some pictures that were given to me to use for this project. Now, it was bothering me. I want my scanner to work. so I thought and thought how I was gonna fix this issue. I decided I was going to uninstall the printer, and do it again. so, tonight i got to work, and was told I could go home if I wanted. they had extra packers. Wow! I could finally do this without having to be so tired and get it wrong again.

So i got home and started looking for the disk. I cant uninstall until I can safely install. so i start looking through the stack of documents and instructions for the whole system, and lo and behold, start up disks for the desk top. Hmmm. I wonder if i can reinstall that system over the one that is in there now. I will call the computer guys later. but I couldnt find the printer disk. i did find the instructions for installation though and saw what I did wrong. i can fix it. John was still asleep, so I didnt want to make too much noise looking for the missing disk.

In the meantime, I defragged and cleaned that puter out and was gonna play a littele spider solitare. WTH! there are no games on that machine. I thought every windows operating system came with games. Now I really have to reinstall that other disk. After John finally woke up, at 330 cus it was too hot, I went back into the other room and looked in one more place. I found the disk and now I will just have to wait for him to get done with his things he does every morning then I can fix that issue. maybe I will wait and call the computer guys first, so i dont have to install it twice.

I really need to do some organising. since alex came home and all his stuff is taking up all my extra space, now my extra stuff is everywhere. gotta figure this one out. Well, see ya later.

  1. Definitely consult your computer guys before reinstalling you original boot disk. They may have more required updates than you have on your old boot disk. If so, that will save a bunch of time in getting your system up and running completely again.

I went through a similar computer hassle this year, but was able to save my print/scan software as-is and only reload Windows XP files that somehow got "lost". My machine is a bit quirky, but it still runs good and much quicker since my computer guys got rid of a bunch of code that I will never need from Windows.

Good Luck with this project. Its a bear!

  2. I think I may need all the luck I can get on this. Im glad i found the disks, but I am still kinda upset that it doesnt have the same programs i bought it with. maybe i should do the printer thing and get that fixed, so i can finish my project, then try and work on the install. Im gonna consult my guys definatly.

  4. Get Alex a storage unit.....As for the games - you can download the games from the Microsoft website - just go there and search for solitare.

The problem with you installing the older operating system version in your machine is that you'll have hours and hours of updates that will need to be put on since it is an older version. I don't know whether you are talking about different versions altogether (like you have Vista now and you had Windows XP before).....but if that's the case - keep the Vista - don't go back to the older one - much greater risk of catching a virus again....and soon enough they won't be supporting XP anymore.

  5. its the 2005 version of xp. but its the one from costco. they have more stuff put on their puters they sell. I probably wont be able to do that. I didnt realsie I could go to the website and down load the games. I wonder if there is also a writing tool, like works I coukd download. there is no writing tool on the system any more. I dont use it like i used to, i use my laptop for my stuff. but it should be on there, just in case I want to.

  6. Formatting a computer is as much a pain in the arse as getting a new one! Everything is no where! If that makes sense. I got my new lappy last month and I am still getting it back to where my last one was. I am in the process of copying all my old photos to disk now and that is a pain in the butt! Good luck with yours!
