and then there were none

I think I killed my fish. I am so upset by this. I bought them two or t three years ago from walmart cus I wanted a pet. I bought 10 goldfish for 10 cents each and three coy. I didn't know they were coy till later. the goldfish slowly died off. that didn't surprise me. they aren't expected to live very long. I finally ended up with the coy and one really pretty goldfish. since it is getting hotter, the water in the fountain get cloudy pretty quick. I keep it running, to keep the filter going and the stop the mosquito's from taking hold and having a free breeding ground. I also put algae control in it. you use a very small amount, one teaspoon per 50 gallons of water. I used it on sunday and on monday the water was clear. it hadn't gotten really bad yet. I went out to feed the fish yesterday and they looked great.

this morning I went out there and one of my fish was floating on the top and the other three were on the bottom of the barrel. What the hell???? when i looked at them a little closer with the net, two of them were still breathing, the goldfish and one coy. the coy was still breathing so i moved it down to the lower tank and tried to get it to move. I worked with it for a while, and finally go tit to start swimming a little .

do I sound a little strange. well i got attached to my fish i guess. even though they never swam up to meet me when i fed them, they were still my pets. anyway, i finally go tit stay in the upright position and swim a little so i took my shower and headed off to bed. When i woke up tonight, i checked on it again and he was again on his side, but still breathing. I know that he will be gone by the morning, but i tried. I guess I don't get to have a pet, even a fish. I did  bury the other ones. I will have to do that in the morning with this one. crap. I really liked my fish too.

Now, on a lighter note. my friend did a great favor for me yesterday and I didn't eve ask for it. she called around and found a place that will print the pics for the memory quilt for me. I figured the price of the ink and my time will be worth the cost of her doing that. so, i am going to try and find at least fifty pictures form those that I have and put them on a disk then bring it to her shop. she is a t-shirt printer. she is going to put the pics on a transfer sheet and i will only have to cut them apart and iron them on. and only for about fifty bucks. I am happy with that. pretty cool huh? and i didn't even ask for this help, she just thought of it and did it. How cool is that? I usually have to do my own research and finding. there isn't a time-line on this, so I can take my time until the hall is built. it s gonna be a really cool quilt. wait till you see the end result.

Well, that's it for now. Ill see ya all later.

  2. Lisa, darlin', I found this information on a website about Coy fish. Thought it might help for your next attempt at raising them.

"Coy fish are omnivorous and they live on anything ranging from watermelon seeds, lettuce leaves and peas. They even chew away mosquito larvae and other insects, making it easier for you to maintain them in your pond. In the winter, their digestive tract becomes very small and they eat nothing more than the algae at the bottom. They are the friendliest variety of fish that can be trained to respond to a clap to gather at a particular spot while feeding. They can easily hand fed and since they have no teeth, they can be fed by small children also. "

    Also:
"If the conditions are favorable and ideal, they can live for up to 90 years. Ideal conditions are clean water, large area and fresh food. They live longer if kept with other pond fishes as well as with themselves. Coy fish are a favorite of many pond owners in many countries since they can be bred in any climates, even the harsh winters."

Good luck with your next group. I hope they live a longer life the next time.

  3. the last fish is still trying to live, but it keeps falling sideways. I dotn know if Im gonna do fish again. although i really did enjoy them.
Jim, I have seen coy live in the dirtiest water, and thrive. they just grow and swim around and dont even seem to mind the algae. If I ever do decide to try this again, I wont be so spazzy about the color of the water.
