im starting a new quilt

I was talking to my daughter in law a few weeks back about christmas presents for the grandbabies. I was afraid to gert thema regular toy since everything was from china and being recalled. I decided to get them somenthing else. I will order it online and have it shipped. Then I wont have to worry about lead in their toys. Anyway, she told me she would like a quilt for christmas, in jeweltone colors. I had to think about this, and ask what jeweltone colors were. I didnt have to wonder if I would make her one, just what kind of one would I make.

Well, I opened one of my books and made myself pick a pattern. I really wish i would have looked a little further. This book does not have very good directions. But I bought the fabric and cut it already, so I am commited. I made two blocks of the pattern today, just so I would know  what I was getting into. They turned out very pretty, and Im sure the finished product will be very pretty. I just hope I can get it done by christmas. I will put up a picture when i get the front done.

  1. Hmmm - if you weren't familiar with the term "jewel tones" I think hubby isn't buying you enough jewelery ;).

  2. I am still wondering about the jewel tones. I need another easy pattern as I decided to make someone else a quilt and don't want to do the same rail fence pattern.
I agree with the whole present buying thing. It's crazy buying for too many people. I buy or make for the special people and that is what I have always done. To me Christmas is not about gifts but spending time with loved ones and celebrating the Birth of Christ. I'ts also a good reason to partake in fancy alcohol drinks

  3. I know I am late here, but I so want to quilt. It is my next hobby. My daughter is trying to learn from me....hehe. I know the basics and that is saying too much. Anyways, she is trying to make a photo transfer quilt for her hubby in Iraq. Have you ever worked with this stuff before? I ordered her a book from Amazon and hoping it will help her out more than I can. Her MIL got her a sewing machine for Christmas assuming she sews because she is good at fixing her Army uniforms. This should be interesting.

How did you quilt turn out?:

  4. I think you will make it by Christmas. I have never done a whole quilt before. I did a lap quilt once for a child's bed. I think it went rather quickly but I can't remember. I'm looking forward to the pictures. And btw, I still have mine you made me. It stays on the back of my sofa for wrapping up in when I sit by the fireplace to read. *snug*
