Just Quilts

I gave this one to Johns Mom fpor Christmas last year

I have been wanting to do this. Put up one picture of each quilt I have made. I have files of them in so many places, I forget what I did or who i did them for. I have to go back to all the different sites I have and snag them so I can put them in one place. I just like looking at them.I

More fish Drama

yesterday after I woke up, i cleaned my house, made a carrot cake and ran a few errands to buy fish food, ask a few questions about a few things and buy one last yard of blue fabric for the never ending Linda's quilt. I gave her the front so she can put her pictures on it while I made the border. I figured it would take me a while to make that, but i got it all done and now all i have to do is put it on the quilt.

Anyway, I bought a new kind of fish food, some water rocks that will produce oxygen while we are gone and a feeding stone for when we are gone. I am gonna have to turn off the pump when we go to vegas cus the water disappears so fast when it runs. we have to fill it almost every other day cus it is so hot here. Its just evaporating that fast or there is some kind of leak I cant find. Anyway, when i got home, i gave the fish a small handful of the new food, to see if they liked it. yes, they did start eating it. I guess its not like dogs n cats, where they know they can break us down to give them something else. all was happy in the fish barrell.

I went back in, worked on the border, did a few things and and had a few beers. I had been pretty productive. once again, I went outside for a break. If i sit too long at the sewing machine, my back starts to ache so I get up and take a walk every few hours. the sun was high in the sky, the fountain was flowing good, and the fish were playing in the waterfall. suddenly, one of them jumps up out of the water, a good 5 or 6 inches. WOW! I wasnt expecting that, but what fun.

So later on, when I finished what i was doing, cleaned up and took one last trip outside before I started something else. one of the fish was laying on the ground right outside the barrell with flys on him. I didnt know if he was still alive, so I picked him up and put him back in the water and sorta massaged him like they do in the catch and release fishing shows. at first he was slow to start swimming, but he finally did and stayed at the bottom. I checked him several times until it got dark and he was still alive. I sure hope he lives. I know its only a goldfish, but he is my goldfish.

So now I think Im gonna try to figure out some way to cover the barrell with wire, making it with a curve. if these fish are gonna jump, i have to find a way to keep them in the water. right now im thinking the top to my outdoor fireplace thingy. it has a curved top. can you imagine how I was with my kids if this is how I act with a few fish????

Friday Roundup

Yippee!!!!! its finally Friday and i dont have to work tonight. for the last two weeks, I have been crewed in on Friday night.for those of you who dont know, i dont work Friday night. Its not a regular night for me, it would be Overtime which is totally taboo in my book. So today i came home, had a bowl of cheerios, (my favorite) and made a batch of cookies for John. When the last tray is out of the oven, I am gonna work on the border for Lindas quilt. That is gonna take a while, its a lot of small pieces sewn together at an angle. i will show you when I get it done. Speaking of which, I got the back in the mail yesterday. I only ordered it On monday and it arrived on thursday. Pretty cool. It was out of Florida and got here pretty quick. She is gonna love this, I know I would.

Ok, there is a huge bunch of viruses on my desktop that john plays with. I bought Norton last year that was supposed to be able to load to three different computers. it only loaded to my laptop. so my laptop is clean, as far as I know. Well, every time you get on the desktop, this big warning pops up saying the computer is infected and I need to by this upgrade to fix it. The other day I got so fed up, i just said to myself, feck it, just go ahead and buy this now and get this crap fixed. so I did. John keeps telling me to wait for this day or that, then at home asks me to try and fix it.GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! OK, so after that I finally went to bed. it was 4 pm. and I was tired. When i woke up, there was a message from the fraud alert folks and they wanted one of us to call them, so i did. Guess what, what looked like a Microsoft virus protection plan, was a scam spyware from the Russian republic.  They charged me 77.00 instead of the 36 i checked. i told the credit card folks to cancel that transaction and that card. I have a new one coming in the mail.

Yesterday i got home and went straight to the back yard and clean the fountain and get rid of some of the moss that was growing in there and clean the filter. This took a little while, but it looked better. the fish looked happier when the water flowed better so I was happy. I have to check the water level a lot cus it gets low really fast sometimes. and when I fill it up, i have to be really careful cus there is a groove cut in the top of the bottom barrel where the hose fits. If you fill the bottom barrel too high, the fish can get out through that hole and land in a puddle of water behind the fountain. So this morning I went out to check the water and feed the fish when I looked in the back cus i always do. and low and behold there was one of my big fish sitting in the little pool of water that builds up behind the bottom barrel. I caught him and put it back in the barrel hopefully before any damage was done. I think john may have filled up the barrels and didnt pay attention. now I have to go make sure none of the small ones escaped. I stirred up the mud when i caught the big fish.

anything else.....................HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. I dont think so I have to work sunday night, but it will be triple time. lisa says oh boy with as little enthusiasm as she can muster. oh, one more thing. McCain picked his running mate this morning and it is the female governor of alaska. she seems pretty smart and I think it was a pretty smart choice on his part. I think he just grabbed the female voters that hillery left undecided. That is all the politics I am putting here.

So you all have a great long weekend.

Baby birds, finally

here are a few pics of the baby birds outside our front door. i felt so privilaged to be able to watch this as it was happening.

I feel lucky, Oh so Lucky

And why do I feel this way you may ask? Because, Friday when I called to see how much my check was, it was 200 something more than it was supposed to be. this put me on alert, so I went to check my statement, which I have to do online cus we are paperless. It showed that I had been given two checks, one for !!!. something and one for ??? something. the !!!! one had been pulled back and replaced with the ??? one. that is more than I bring home a week, so I had to find out why. well, I went to the person at work who would look into this and asked him to find out why they gave me 200 more than I normally bring home. Long story kinda short, he called, and they said they accidently took out that money from a previous check and so they are returning it to me. the extra cash is mine. woo hooo. that made me so happy. I would have noticed if they took out an extra 200, but if they say its mine, i am not asking any more.

yesterday, I got home and had to find the back for the quilt I made. linda wanted patriots fleece, since they no longer make the small helmets one in blue. so I went online and started my hunt. I went to the regular search places. I knew I could find it in a certain price range, it wasnt full blown football season yet. i went to ebay, where I found the best price on the red, but it was all 13.99 a yard there. so i went to another site and bam, there it was for 10.99 a yard and shipping was only 7 something. I was pretty proud of myself there.

While on my search, amber popped in to say hi. that is always a nice surprise. we talked about the trip to vegas which is coming up fast. i dont know how many of you ever go to the front page, but she put up a countdown. i love the pics she puts up. they are usually about something  to do with the trip. She is much more patient in searcing for pics and doing that creative stuff than I am. I wont even try to put a picture in these blog posts. its just to much work. Thanks Amber. I love those.

Then, to top off my day, i went to bed shortly after i got off line. i rubbed some lotion into my feetsies which sorta makes them feel better. its not as great as a pedi massage, but it works. I seem to be able to get to sleep if my feet dont hurt so much. DUH! Anyway, i opened my eyes a few times, but not really. when john came to bed i looked at the clock and fell back on the pillow. finally, i looked at the clock at 9. yes folks I typed 9 oclock. i slept all day and into the night. i am lucky to sleep 6 or 7 hours, no matter how tired i am. i slept about 10 hours yesterday. and do you know what that means. i felt really good all last night at work and here I am telling you all stuff, still feeling pretty good. im not gonna push my luck, i am going to try and get some more good sleep. oh, baby, it felt so good to wake up after all that sleep.

so that is the story of why i feel lucky. and happy. now im off to do something else. you all have a good day now.

Sunday chattin again

According to my recollection, its been a week since I wrote anything on my page. Its not that I dont really want to, cus i do. But I have been so freaking tired I just cant. I have been doing a job I havent done for quite a while and it just wears me out. I did ask to do this, but i think I wont be asking to do this again for a while. It wears me out, i have nothing to prove. let the younger guys do it. i dont care.

other than that i really havent done much. I come home from work and pray i make it to the shower then bed. i usually do. yesterday i spent all day working on that quilt. it took so long to get linda to make up her mind over everything, i just wanted to finally get it finished. Now i will bring it to her, she can put the pictures of her kids on the white squares, and I will order the back. Again, it has to be ordered online cus we cant get patriots products in the stores out here. i think its a licencing thing with them, or the company that owns the rights to the patriots. the back is going to be fleece. it will be plenty warm this winter as she sits at practice and the games. this will last her a life time though, and no one else will have one like it. I dont even know how much to charge her. we never discussed it. oh well. im sure she will be fair. I explained how much time it takes to do these. we will see.

I almost ended this, but I just remembered one more thing. remember the birds nest that was on  our porch thing in front of our door? Well, I think what happened  to the second bird that disappeared, i think he flew away. The following week the last bird in the nest sat on the edge, let me take his picture, which i have to gather and post. Then one day, the nest was empty. we let it stay there for a few days, thinking the birds were gonna come back. they never did though. so john took it down and it fell apart. there was nothing but a few feathers in it. I think that the birds maybe hatched a week apart and that is how they matured and flew away. We would have liked to see them leave the nest, but they didnt let us know when it was happening so we missed it.

ok, that is it for now. see ya all later.

Linda's quilt, almost

Here is a few pics of the current status of the current quilt. I had to make a decision which pattern to go with, how I was gonna set the blocks. Well, the last two pics is the end result. I still have to add three more rows then the back. I like how it is turning out. I sure hope my co worker likes it.

Hello My friends again

This weekend we took off and went to Occidental again. On the way up there I called Johns sister and asked her and her husband to meet us for dinner. His brother and his wife were meeting us, it should be fun. I was only able to leave a message, she is always out somewhere, running errands. They own and run a dairy, and there is always something to be done. We didn't know if they were going to meet us or not, until we got a message later on at the restaurant. As it turned out, we all got to get together and have dinner, have drinks and a very fun time. us girls can sit and talk and laugh all night long. there is always something to say. those guys can drink and talk all night long, there is always more to drink. lol. Its really a lot of fun to get together. we are all going on 25 years of being family together. My sister in law and brother in law and myself are considered the outlaws in the family. its a joke with us cus when they used to take family pictures, even after we were married into the family, we would be told, just the family. which excluded us. So, we would take our own separate pictures as the outlaws, none of their family. We thought it was funny, maybe you just had to be there.

Before the night was over, we had decided that part of the family would come over the hill to our side of town and go wine tasting. We could rent a limo or stay in a hotel up there. I have tried to get Johns brother and his wife out here so many times, but something always happens and they cant come out. I cant blame them for what happens, its not their fault, but I keep trying. we are all pretty busy, so its might be a challenge to find one weekend that we can all get out together. we will figure it out though.

We got up early this morning around 8 and went for breakfast. it was so yummy, but neither of us could finish it. we both got denver omelette's with biscuits. we usually get something from each other. I'm glad we got it. the bell peppers and onions were grilled separately and there was lots of cheese in them. oh, they were good. That is my favorite omelet. After breakfast as we were leaving town, I asked john to drive up some roads we had never been on up in the back of town. we found a bed n breakfast inn that i had heard was there, but didn't know where it was. I went in and got some info and a price sheet. It is twice as much, but also has twice as much to offer, spas in the rooms, breakfast, wine tastings, private balconies with views. I want to go there next time i think. www.innatoccidental.com

So after we got home, I had to go pick up a prescription at walmart. On the way there, i stopped and got some more fabric to work on the quilt i am making. when I was at the fabric shop, I gave my extra coupons to another couple to use, since i couldn't use them. They were making a memory quilt also, and I told them a few pointers I had discovered, no sense in making them learn on their own. After, I went to pick up my prescription. I also bought a new pair of work boots. on the way out, i dropped my debit card. it was in a small envelope thingy along with my drivers licence and costco card. I didn't realise this until I got home. I panicked and drove right back to walmart. I parked near to where I parked before, walked the same path i waked before. as it turned out, the card was turned in to the store, everything in tacked. I was panicking. I don't carry a purse, just that little packet of my info. but some wonderful person turned it in. Thank you to that honest wonderful person. I know this may seem silly, but i think if you give it comes back to you. maybe giving this coupons to strangers helped my karma for a stranger to help me. I don't know, but I am so very grateful.

I just went and looked at how long this has gotten. I think its time i ended for today. see ya all later.

Memory Quilt blocks

This is the fabric and two of the blocks I made for the quilt. let me know which one you like. I have a preference, but I will keep i tto myself till I get a few more opinions.

Sunday kind of chat

Its sunday morning here at my house. I recorded the opening ceremonies on friday and watched it last night after dinner. I fell asleep then too after they started the parade of nations. I was totally blown away by the technology used to create that show. I would love to see that in person. that part when they had the boxes going up and down and creating all the different formations just threw me. the whole show was amazing. I have the olympics set to record but only on one channel. We watched the us beat china this morning in basketball, but that wasnt a recorded segment. I dont think its live, actually, I dont know what is live in this anymore. I just love watching these games and rooting for the US.

WE got up this morning to find one of the baby birds had fallen out of the nest and was laying lifeless on our front porch. There were three of them. I am hoping he didnt fall, but was pushed cus he may have been the weakest and was taking up space in the nest. this makes me feel better about seeing his little body and nature taking its course. They are so cute. there was one that kept standing up too close to the edge and showing off. I am hoping it wasnt him.

I am making a memory quilt for a lady at work with a patriots football theme. I ended up having to order the patriots fabric online and it finally arrived yesterday. I sent her a picture of the blocks, and now I am waiting to hear back from her. I cant do anything till she says which style she wants. this is the first time i have done a quilt like this, where I allow a person to figure out what they want. I usually just make it for them and they dont know the difference. I dont know if I will do this again. I just want to be done. and she wants it for football season. at this rate, she will have it next football season. lol

I think I may blow up my pool again and go for a soak one more time. I bought me a floaty thing, a tanning chair for the pool. I am still peeling from the last burn, it looks like I have a really bad case of leprosy.

I think that may be it for a while. see ya all later.

My olympic connection

I have been trying to do this all week. Every time I try, I log on, read a few emails which consist mostly of what every person on multiply has posted on someone elses blog or page. some of these i just delete, cus I have never heard of these names before and I may be tired. Which brings me to why i cant seem to get this this far, Im tired. I get to my page and by that time, I am doing the head bobbin thing. my eyes are rollin back in my head and It s time to head off to bed. I havent responded to any emails or comments on anyones pages. At that point, i am shutting down and heading off to bed.

So now I am here. and i need to tell you something, and this is really exciting folks. grab on to your puters, cus this is cool. ............I have a connection to this years summer olympics in china. kinda. here we go, follow me now. the daughter of one of the guys I work with, is part of the only non professional band that is over there for the games. there are about 2000 students from all over the world in this band. of that, about 600 of them are from the us. most of them are from the central valley and the San Francisco Bay area. about 200 of them are from washington state.  So there ya go, I know it was pretty exciting and way cool, that is my connection.

I askeed if they were there yet, and he told me they were. They were allowed to play in tianamin square. I really dont think I spelled that right. they are the only non professional band allowed to play there. They also have played on the great wall. It took about 25 buses to get all of them there, and they they all had to lug their instruments up all the stairs to the top of the wall. I just think this is so cool. The band is out of one of the high schools here in modesto, Davis high. i just think this is really cool.

so here I am. its almost 9 pm. I have a meeting tonight at 11, and an appointment with the therapist at 1045. i suppose i should get ready for work. i still havent eatin anything and im gettin kinda hungry. I slept really late today, about 8 whole hours. that is always good. Oh hey, guess whats been rolling through my brain latley. I think im gonna expand the gate. i keep thinking about that. I think there is something else going on that I need to put down. we will see. Haley, if yu have gotten this far in this incredibly boring post, the gate is a story i wrote back in 360 land.

ok, that is the end of this one. see ya all later.

Stroke Your Friends

I have been thinking of doing this for a while, but couldnt figure out how to get everyones name on here. I finally thought of it last night, and guess what it worked. So here is my idea. You can do it if you want, or not. I figure, if everyone on Multiply does this, everyone will feel good as many times as the friends they have. So here we go.

Go to the customise my page link. then on to edit contacts. copy n paste your friends to an empty blog. If you do it this way, you dont have to try and remember all your friends. Then, using either one word, or one sentence, make a positive comment about each of your friends. If you dont know them very well, if they are new to your list, just put something nice. The point of this is to let each of us know we are loved, needed, and valued as the people we are. Sometimes we just need to be stroked a little to get us through the day.

OK, of you wanna try, go for it.

After thinking about this for a few minutes, i had to come back and make a few revisions. I left a few very important things out, one in particular.

Little of this, little of that

I really should be sleeping. I have to go in at 10 tonight but i layed down at 5 and tossed till 630. its just too frustrating trying to get to sleep after so long like that. i just got up and kinda got halfway ready. took a shower and will make my lunch, coffee for john in the morning and his lunch for tomorrow. i will probably get to come home anyway if i want, i will sleep then.

i wrote a blog this morning, had it all ready to post, was hitting the save and publish button and all of a suddon, it was gone. all that was left was the title that I put in last. I usually do that last cus I never really know what in gonna say here till i get it all done. I found out that john was on the other puter and was having problems. he kept trying to correct it, but it wouldnt work. so, he did what we have to do every once in a while, turn off all the power to the thing and do a total restart. that usually fixes the problem. it did today also, but it also turned off the internet connection to my lappy, which deleted everything i had written. oh well.

all i said was that i got my hair cut, dyed and my bushy brows waxed. I had been thinking about having it done, my hair had grown out so much since the last big cut. the lady that cuts my hair also moved to a shop closer to my house too. now she is right around the corner in the shopping center. how cool is that.  she also told me i get a senior discount if i go in monday through thursday of ten dollars. woo hoo, this is the first discount i have had since i turned fifty. it just keeps getting better.

I found out the nest outside my door has three chicks in it. I was able to see them saturday morning as their mom was feeding them. they sure are noisy little babies. I kept trying to get a pic of them, but none came out very clear. i knew what i was looking at, but it would have just looked like a bunch of nest pics if i put them up. I have to take the pics through the screen door. if i open the door, she flys away. they are too small for me to get too close. I will keep trying though.

John and i have a 24th anniversary coming up in two weeks. we are going to occidental for the weekend. Probably stop in Sonoma for lunch and then Sebastipol and get some apples. they grow the best apples there, the right combination of cold wet weather and just enough heat. that is where i got those pink apples last year. john loves apple pie and i dont mind making it for him really. I never have to cook, so if he wants me to bake him something, i am happy to do it. Yes, you read that right, i dont have to cook. I am just a little spoiled, but so is he.

ok, i better start to get my stuff done. lunches, coffee what ever. hope you all have a great week.

Another Friday Blog(yes I said blog)

Its Friday again. finally. Sometimes I am so ready for the week to end. this is one of those weeks. Not that it was a hard week or anything like that, i just wanted it to end. I love the weekends.

Earlier this week, the husband of a lady i work with unexpectedly passed away on his way to work. he was very young, and I dont know what the cause was, but the whole thing is very sad. they have three children together, and she is on her own. her best friend at work, took up a collection to help with the services and rent and what ever else she may need. I donated, but not as much as others Im sure. Instead, I went this morning after work and went grocery shopping for them. I got the basics, milk bread eggs. stuff for dinner n lunch. The lady I ride with took me to a grocery outlet to shop, so I really got more for my money. We dropped it off at her house and left it with the kids, asking them to put it away for us. Their mom had just left, and Im sure it was strange to have these two strange women come and just drop off food. we were gone in about three minutes. It felt better for me to do that, than throw money at the situation.

Which brings me to my next thought. In some cases, money is what is needed to fix a situation. that doesnt always fix the problem though. the problem is what needs to be fixed. note the money the government threw at us. some of the money was used to pay debt, some was used for fun, but our nation is still in a financial crises of sorts. so my question is this. do you feel obligated to donate to every cause that rolls through your workplace. are you confident the cash is used to help in the way it was intended or does it even matter to you.

so after that, i got home and went straight for the shower. I had no plans for anything but to take a nap. Instead, i got out and started on my dusty filthy house. I really truely hate to dust, but john is having a really hard time breathing. so i changed my sheets, did two loads of laundry, dusted, but not great dusting, and vacuumed. then i sat down to read my mail, my feet were hurting so bad at this point, i could hear them scream. John came home for lunch and we had a small conversation. then he got up to go back to work, said good by and that is all i remember. i tipped over on the couch and woke up at 630. the doors were open, the tv was on, but i was out like a light, and it felt good.

one last thing. the swollow nest out front, the egg has finally hatched. i heard the baby up there squealing for a worm. then the mom would swoop in and feed it, sit for a minute, then take off again on another hunt for food. as much as I would love to see the baby, im not gonna chance it. i dont want to put the baby in jeaperdy. the last set of chicks died when when i looked at them, even though i never touched them. i will be happy watching from the front door.

ok, i think i am done. have a great weekend.
