Helpless from Modesto

Yesterday we got the phone call no parent ever wants to get.  While Alex was driving to school, there was an accident on the side of the road. Of cource, everyone had to slow down to watch.  Well, he was going about 10 miles an hour, trying to keep a safe distance from the car in front of him, and up from behind some lady hits him doing about 40mph. He is sore, but alive. His car is totaled though. the police that were taking care of the other accident, now had to also take care of this one.  It is a very helpless feeling when you cant run and take care of your kids when something bad happens to them. We were able to get him a rental until we can get him a new car. I just hav eto say, though, thank goodness that lady was in Oklahoma. I really dont think she would want to deal with an over protective mom from California. that was my baby she so carelessly hit.

It is still freezing cold here. there was frost on my car this mornign when I left work, and i had to sit and let my windows defrost before i could leave.  I checked the temp for 95358, and it was 32 degrees. I think that is the official freezing temp, correct?

When I came in this morning to read my blog comments, write something, and read everyone elses pages, I had to wipe the lip marks off my monitor. There, big as you please, were big ole sloppy lip maks, like someone left me a smoochie kiss. Also, after i tipped my keyboard over to get out the rest of the pancake  batter that was poured onto it last weekend, it also had flour, sage, pine needles and an assortment of other christmas related items.  I may have to get a new keyboard pretty soon if I keep finding this stuff so generously placed here every day. Hmmmmm, is this the Bears version of the twelve days of christmas. I am trying to not have to use some of the keys that are still stuck from the pancake batter. Thanks Bear and Katie, really you are too kind.  I cannot accept this much kindness from two more loving people without recipricating somehow. I havent figured out just how much kindness I can afford to return your way.  thank you so much.

Pretty soon I will be off work again for 3 to6 weeks. I am going top try and get in some serios sewing. I didnt have my machines for a few weeks cus one was not working right and the other I didnt know how to use. Now I am back on track and i have a few gifts i need to get made.  I figure, if I can come home every day and sew for a few hours, I can get these done. I only have three more to do, so I will do my best to put in some time every day. I would put them on my photostrem, but they dont show up any more, andi dont know why. I cant get the stupid pictures to change, even though i have taken some off. I wont put any mor pics on there, I will just make new albums, that is easier.

Well, I have a doctore appt today, so i better get scootin. hope you all have a great day.

Entry for November 26, 2006

We took Alex to the airport this morning. I cried all the way home except for the part where i fell asleep. I wont see him again untill may or june when he graduates and we go out there to visit him.  this is too much for me, but it is what is best for him.

It is freezing freaking cold here right now. we have a cold front blowing in, that usually means its from Alaska, so it is really cold. Its also raining here, which means it will have lots of snow in the mountains. good for those that like to slide down the hill with long peices of wood strapped to their feet.  That just isnt my idea of a good time.

I think quite literally a lot of the time. I will hear something, and start giggling to myself, trying to contain the laugh so no one will think i am just a little bonkers. What I mean by literal thinking is, well, exactly what the words are that are said.  Every time I go to the airport, it makes me laugh. As soon as i hear that soft voice announce us to keep control of our bags, I picture the carry on bags people have with them, trying to sneak away from their owners and hang out with a stranger. Or maybe just roll around by themselves until someone grabs them.  I wonder who is the person that is going to ask you to hold onto their bags, or ask if they can watch yours for a while.  I wonder these things when I hear some of the stuff we have streaming at us all the time.  My son thinks I am over the edge, I am sure, until he does it back to me, and catches me off guard and we both get laughing.

I finished a small lap quilt yesterday. I have had the front of two quilts done for quite some time, but due to the sewing machine issue, I wasnt able to finish them. I went friday morning and bought 5 different pieces of fabric, each 4 yards for the backs. I will finish the other one I have ready to put a back on and get started on another one. On the edge, which is called the binding, i do the wrap around method. You are supposed to sew this part by hand, but i dont cus my hands go numb. I felt a little creative yesterday, so I put a different stitch from the many on each side of the quilt. I like the way it turned out, but probably wont do that again. I will just pick a stitch and use it all the way around. I will get some pics of the quilt and put it on  my slide show, picture thingy/cant remember the name right now. by the way, does anyone know how to change the front pics on that? Im getting a littel tired of the dolls buts showing.

I had to work wednesday night into thursday and also friday night for two hours. that really blew my three day weekend away. I had a good weekend though, Alex was here and i got to see his face. that made me happy. OK, that it for now. I dont have anything else to say. You all have a good week.

Entry for November 24, 2006

Thanksgiving is over.  I hope everyone ate only what they wanted and enough of what they wanted. We had a good meal. John went and picked up Alex athe airport cus i was still asleep when he woke up.  We flew him in from Oklahoma for the holiday. When they finally got home, I grabbed him and hung on to him for too long. I cant beleive how much i miss him when he is gone. I miss both of my boys so much.  Its funny how they grow up, move out, and then we just cant seem to stop missing them. I dont especially want him right here in my house living all the time, but i do want to be able to see them when I want to.  OK, nuff of that.

I knew i would be waking up at o too early. I even thought about going out to the hoards and getting in my little bit of christmas shopping. The only add i took out was from Beverlies. That is a local craft/fabric store and they are having 33% off your entire purchase from 8 to 10. I need fabric for the back of two quilts and maybe more.  they have coupons for the whole day. I can get 40% a single peice of fabric at any time of the day. If i stay in there all day, I can just keep on using my coupons.

I will pretty much be doing the gift card thing this year, since my kids are both out of state.  Its probably easier and more practical to send gift cards than pay for the gift, then pay for postage and handling. I dont know, but that is how i am doing it this year.  Everyone close to me is getting a bunch of some kind of home made goodies.

I will be having surgery on my foot again. the neuroma i had cut out last year grew back and with a vengence. It feels like I am walking on a marble right under my middle toe. It kinda hurts. I will be off 3 to 6 weeks. this is happening Dec 6. I cant wait. I wont be able to walk on  my foot for three weeks, so I will be doing the cruthches thing again. That really hurts. I hate those things.  I hate the hurt in my foot more though.

I have to work tonight. It will be ot for me, and i dont want to do it. I am hoping they call and tell me i dont have to come in. We worked Wednesday night/thursday mornign, but i got off at 430. I finally went to take a power nap at 630 and slept till 9:30. I felt good for most of the day. I sure wish i could sleep in the night like I sleep in the day. OK, Im rambling, signing off now. Have a great day.

More wine for us

Today, John and I went to Lockford to pick up our wine from the wine club we are in. There was another release party for Macchia Wines. Every three or four months, they have a release party, and we are invited, along with anyone else who happens to love red and whites, but mostly reds. Very large and robust reds. I dont now if all of you know about this winery. There are twelve winerys in this little piazza. The area is  surrounded by vinyards and the air here is rich with the aroma of fermenting wine. Its not stifling or pungent, its justy a little something in the air, and I love it.

The first winery we went to was Boitano Winery. They make 1 white and the rest are reds. They also have an almond and a rasberry sparkling wine. it cant be called Champainge because it has to be made in Champaigne France to be called that. Except for Em, did you all know that? Well, i am partial to the  almond flavor. they also sell an orange muscat dessert wine. When you mix the two, you have a fabulous sparkling wine coctail. I bought two bottles of almond and a bottle of Muscat. I will never drink the Muscat by itself Im sure, but with the  almond, it is delish.

After that, we went next door to The Old Lockford Winery. I really need to learn how to create a link so I could direct you to these websites as i am talking about them. Anyway, this place is owned and ran by a palentologist. I think that is what a rock guy/old bone/dinosaur guy is called. there are the coolest things in that place. it is like going through a museum every time you go in. they also have the almond and rasberry sparkling wines, but since i already have two bottles, i didnt get any more. this palce has 2 whites and the rest reds. I tasted the white chardenay. It was very light, a 2005 with an oak flavor. I liked it, but i liked the 2004 better, it makes a difference. I strolled down the counter and my eyes fell on a pair of Emerald and diamond earings. they took my breath away, and I couldnt stop looking at them. I asked if I could see them, and they were more beautiful up close. there was no price tag on them, so I asked. All of a suddon, I was alone with the earrings and looking for someone to put them away, figuring i wasnt goung to be able to pay the $2000.+ it would take to be able to wear them.  then, the owner came out and asked me to make him an offer. I was only kidding, I said fity, he said ok and I stood there looking stupid. He said if I want to pay fity for them, I can have them. I dont know if they are real Emeralds or not, but they are beautiful. I really wish I could show you my ears right now. Anyway, I also got a bag of bones, that is what they are called, its a bag of prehistoric sharks teeth, a fossil of some critter ansd a copper rock for my nephew. He will absolutly love them.  No wine at that store.

After that, we went out into the piazza and hit the Macchia winery release party. when you put a 5.00 deposit on a glass, you drink samples, quite generous samples all day. this is where I left John. I am not a red wine person. I try it, but I just cant do it, it is too strong for me, and I am a cheap date where alchohol is concerned. I went to another white wine store and looked at the jewelry he sells there and had a couple glasses of wine. I wanted to go back there, but by the time i found John again, it was too late and John could barley make it back to the car, we had to go. right now, I just remembered we forgot a bottle of wine at another winery. I will have to call them tomarrow. They will either send it to us, or they can hold it til we go back. either way, its not worth driving back there for.

We got our bottel of wine from our wine club purchase. It is a magnum of 2005 Old Vine Zinfandel. John love his Zins. In the reds, I like Sangiovese. It has a more peppery flavor.that is the only red i will drink. I tasted a Merlot today, and couldnt get the flavor out of my mouth fast enough. Actually, it wasnt so much the flavor, but the feeling it left in my mouth, very, very dry. so, folks, that was my day. Wine tasting and spending money in the wine country of Lodi California. Lockford to be exact. Hope your day was very fun and excitng.

Zoo Day on 360

I know, Em said zoo day starts tomarrow, but I have transformed myself and I want to show off. That is what I love to do, show off all the tricks I can do and make people smile. It took a while, about maybe ten minutes to go through all the animals in my brain and decide. The two animals that I think of most, and have the most photos of are seals and seaguls. I dont really have tricks I do, but seals do love an audience. They are very playful in the wild and in captivity. I actually petted a wild seal one time. We were walking along the beach in Bodega, just at the mouth of the Russion River. We had our two sons, Andy, and Alex and our exchange student daughter with us. It was cold and kinda breezy, but not into full blown freezing beach weather. There were about maybe two hundred, maybe less, I dont know, but a lot, of seals laying together on the beach at the mouth of the river, where it flows into the ocean.  As we approached them, we told the kids, "Dont touch them, they will bite you." We were very quite and cautious as we approached, just wanting to see how close we could get before they started to stir around. We didnt want to disturb their rest. We stayed back from them, just watching for a while. It was amazing just to be that close to them.

For some reason, I very quietly and slowly walked to one of them, and reached out my hand and petted him. As I did this, I was watching his face, to see if he was going to react to me. He was asleep of cource, but could still move pretty quickly. If he did react, and was frightened, he would have biten off my hand, or possibly killed me. If the heard had spooked, they would have all went for the ocean. I would have been killed . I dont know what made me do this. He was so soft, and all at once I could see the horrible people hurting these animals for their fur. I could understand why someone would want it, but couldnt understand someone taking it.  Sometimes God gives us his own special gifts, I think this was one to me.  I would never do this again, that would be pushing my luck.

I do think Seals are a very cute though, and if I could actually transform, I think I would want to be a seal. Wouldnt that be fun to go flying through the water and popping my head up to laugh at myself every once in a while. How fun that would be to twist and turn, see how fast I can go, or just glide as the water goes over my fur. We would all lay on rocks, or beaches. Sometimes, Seals will take over harbors and crowd up on the docks, so boats cant dock. The tourest think its pretty funny, the owners of the docks dont.

Anyway, this is me as a seal. I hope you like it. I do.

We were very quite and cautious as we approached, just wanting to see how close we could get before they started to stir around.

I do.

Liven for the weekend

Yep, that is what I do. Startin on sunday night at 12 midnight, my motto is "waitin for 8". And by that i mean, 8 am so i can go home. After taht, i start waiting for friday, so i can have a weekend. Yep, that is all i want. sometimes, i get to go home during the week, then i am so very happy. two weeks ago, i only worked two and a half days. Oh what a wonderful week that was. Today, i got paid triple time due to the veterans holiday. I know, wow, big bucks on those days. but at 4:30 i was asked if i wanted to go home, and of cource, it was a huge yes. they had to get someone to take my place and i was out of there. I punched out at 4:51 x 3. You do the math. that is how many hours i got for the night, so going home early, didnt really effect my paycheck in a negative way.

I got my small sewing machine out of the shop yesterday after work. I havent tried it yet, that is what  i should be doing right now, but instead, i am talking to you. I need this also, face time sorta, with my friends. I made a new appointment to learn how to use my phaff sewing machine for today at 10:00. That will be really nice. that is a very good machine, and im sure that once i learn how to use it, i wont want to go back to the kenmore.

I think after that, i will head on over to costco and get that fix out of the way. As some of you know already, Em and Pink have asked us to change our avitars to an animal on monday. It is supposed to be our favorite animal. I am really having a hard time trying to figurte out what my favorite animal is. I dont own an animal, an the only one i want is a maltese dog. I probably wont get one though. i hate cleaning up dog poop. it makes me throw up, really it does. So i cant have an animal i cant clean up after.  anyway, i still have to try and figure out what kind of animal i wnat ot be and try to transform into that creature. i will work on that this weekend. I might be asking for help here, we will have to see.

I just went back and read what i have written already. I rarely capitalised when i should have, and im sure i mispelled a few times also. normally, this would drive me nutso. but today, eh,so what whocares.  it really doesnt effect anything, its just my simple thought for the day. nothing else is going on, really. I stopped at starbucks on the wayt home and got my newest favorite drink. a carmel macchiato, venti. its gone already. sucked that baby up like it was water. wish i had another. i better get goin on to the other blog pages now before i babble on about nothing for too long.(raises her empty coffee cup) heres to everyone having a great weekend. dont really know all i am gonna do, but what ever it is, i hope its fun.

Did you Vote??

You know it was your civic duty to do it. its your responsibility to go to the polls or vote at home. that is what I do, and have done for years. it is more conveneint for me, and i can vote at my leisure and send it in. but this is not the reason I am asking. I am so happy this day has finally gotten here. Let me tell you why.

NO MORE OF THOSE  NEVER ENDING MIND NUMBING, CRAP THROWING , LYING COMMERCIALS AND RADIO ADDS THAT THEY PLAY OVER AND OVER UNTIL YOU CANT STAND IT ANY LONGER. NO MORE PHONE RINGING INSESINTLY UNTIL YOU GO CRAZY JUST TO PICK IT UP AND SOME PRERECORDED ACTOR OR POLITICIAN SAYS SOME MADE UP CRAP TO TRY AND GET YOUR PRECIOUS VOTE. IT IS OVER, OVER I TELL YOU AND I AM SO FREAKING HAPPY.  NO MORE  HAVING TO WATCH THOSE POLITICIANS SLING MUD LIKE ITS CHEAP AND EASY AND NO ONE IS GONNA REMEMBER WHEN THIS IS ALL OVER ANYWAY. AND ANOTHER THING, I HOPE THEY TAKE DOWN THEIR STUPID SIGNS BEFORE NEXT YEAR. THEY ARE SO QUICK TO PUT THEM UP, BUT CANT SEEM TO FIND THE TIME TO TRACK DOWN ALL THEIR LARGER THAN LIFE SIGNS AND REMOVE THEM FROM EVERY EMPTY SQUARE INCH OF ROADSIDE.

Uhhh hummmm. OK. Im better now. I just had to get that off my chest. It is our duty to get out there and vote so for no other reason but to get them off our tv's and radios.

Thats all I have for now. nothing really, just a little ranting. Have a good day.

Entry for November 04, 2006

Obviously, its not Halloween any more. I need to update, and I need to start with a new reveal. I think about these things. I wonder what would be worth writing about.  Than I realise, every time we learn any littel bit of new somethihg about one of our friends, we all say "wow, how amazing, interesting, fun, whatever word fits." So I guess I could reveal even the small boring stuff to me, and it would be new to anyone who reads it. so that is the direction I will have to go in when trying to figure out what new thing to reveal about my self.

When we  were kids we lived by the beach. We would go to the beach all the time just to play. Our mom never went with us. Now when I think of that, I think I would never let my kids go to the beach by themselves when they were that small, but we did. Anyway, we used to play chicken with the waves. We  would stand with our backs to the water, and the other would say run just before the wave was gonna hit us.  I didnt hear my sister or brother say run, and the wave hit. Remember, these are surfin size waves, and I was about 8 or 9 at the time. I dont rememeber getting hit,but I do rememeber being thrown around in the water, back and forth as the water came in and out. My sister was yelling for me to stand up, but I couldnt hear her. I finally was able to stand up and breath again. It was really scary. My sister said she was afraid for me cus if she went home with out me she would get in trouble.

Thats done, on to other stuff. I am going today to learn how to use the Phaffe sewing machine my mom gave me. I have an appointment at 10:00 this morning. This machine has buttons all over it and it will make a bunch of different stitches including letters. I cant even get the bobbin thread to work right, even if I look at the manual and try to follow directions. I just cant fint the right directions to follow, and if I start pressing buttons, i could mess up the machine. its best to pay someone to tell me how to use this.

My other machine is on the shop being adjusted and cleaned and oiled. it started squeaking, so i thought I had better correct that before i went any further. I didnt want to break it. I havent been able to sew for about a month now. I am going through my own littel bit of shock treatment here. I really want to get back into my sewing room and finish the things I have started. I have two quilt tops hanging there waiting for boarders and backs. I need to move on.

We didnt get much action here on Halloween.  I had all those chips sitting in bowls, waiting for the cute little kiddies to come by. I only had about six knocks on the door. the first round, i let them choose. After that, I gave them one of each, and they acted just like i said  they would, like they never get to eat chips. OMG. I just think that is so funny.  It my favorite part of handing out chips.

It has finally started raining here. the air is clearing up, its getting that crisp feeling in it. I have to start wondering if I need a coat when i go out. Its not especially cold, its just raining. some would say its cold, but I dont think so, not yet, but it will be. Our newest neighbor still has his sprinkler timer set. it still goes off every morning. I wonder if they know how to turn it off or if it will come on every morinig all winter.  The tree in my front yard is almost naked of leaves right now. It wont be long before it is the skeleton tree, with just small little branches and twigs showing. I kinna like that look also, its appropriate for the winter. Rebirth has to start somewhere.

OK, I better set my print and get on the reading everyont elses news. By the time I walk awy from here two hours will have passed and I will be running out the door. Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend planned. See ya all soon.
